This week, construction will commence on a new, four-story men’s residence hall located west of Ryan Hall on the southwest portion of campus. Built to attain LEED silver certification, the 78,000 square-foot residence hall will be home to approximately 250 undergraduate men. Construction on the East Plant has commenced and will continue through fall 2018. The plant will be located southeast of the intersection of Douglas Road and Wilson Drive. The plant will house heat pumps that are connected to the geothermal well fields beneath Ricci Fields along with chillers and a Thermal Energy Storage Tank. Crews will perform utility infrastructure upgrades and extensions. The gated parking lots at the Joyce Center along Leahy Drive as well as the Guglielmino Athletics Complex parking lot will remain open.
The area will be closed for approximately three weeks as workers make general improvements to the entryway’s exterior.
A portion of the walkway east of Notre Dame Avenue will be closed April 24 through May 5.
Facilities Design and Operations has scheduled exterior maintenance to Grace Hall to start on Wednesday, April 12. This will include the following:
- Masonry restoration
- Removal of existing roofing system
- Installation of new roof
- Completion time of approximately 3 1/2 to four months.
To begin the masonry restoration, the crane will be set-up at the northeast corner of the building to hoist equipment/materials up to the roof. Contractor personnel will be onsite to direct pedestrians safely around this area. This should take approximately four hours.
DeBartolo Hall’s north and east entrances and north loading dock will be closed as well as the walkways between DeBartolo and Duncan Student Center. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed to the east side of DeBartolo Hall, facing Eck Hall of Law and McKenna Hall.

Campus Dining, in partnership with Student Government, Student Activities, Student Affairs and Facilities Design and Operations, began the renovation of North Dining Hall (NDH) on Monday, October 17, 2016. Completion of the project is anticipated by the beginning of the 2017 fall semester.
What does the North Dining Hall renovation include?The dining hall will remain open while academic classes are in session throughout the fall and spring semesters. Because of the extensive work and compressed timeline, the dining hall will be totally shut down during the University’s winter break and after final exams in May. See the detailed timeline here.
Starting on Monday, Oct. 31, the parking lot at the corner of N. Eddy Street and Holy Cross Drive will be permanently closed to build the new Walsh Family Hall School of Architecture. Sidewalks along the east side of N. Eddy St. and the south side of Holy Cross Dr. will be closed for construction. See the attached map for details.
The south portion of Corby Drive, just west of Sorin Hall, will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17 and 18, for utility work associated with the renovation of Walsh Hall.
