Corby Drive closed for up to 45 days

Corby Drive between Sorin Hall and Walsh Hall closed starting Tuesday, Oct. 26, to accommodate construction equipment. A crane will be on site for the next 30-45 days to aid in the Sorin Hall renovation and addition. Corby Drive is expected to reopen before the Thanksgiving holiday. St. Mary’s Road closure extends into September

St. Mary’s Road will be closed between Holy Cross Drive and Columba Hall from Tuesday, Aug. 24, through Tuesday, Sept. 7, to support the construction of a new parking lot in that area. Pedestrians and runners will still be able to walk on St. Mary’s Road and access the paths around both lakes. Parking lot construction at Columba Hall

The University, in cooperation with the Congregation of Holy Cross, will begin construction this week on a small parking lot south of Columba Hall, a residence for Holy Cross brothers. 

The lot, which will accommodate 13 vehicles, will replace on-street parking at the south end of St. Mary's Road across the street from the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and the back of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Due to large truck and crane activity, Sorin Court, north of Main Building, will be closed to traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Wednesday-Friday Nov. 4-6. While the Main Building parking lot will be open to those with permits, the traffic circle will be blocked. During this time, delivery trucks intending to deliver packages to the Main Building will need to park in the St. Liam Lot and walk packages to the building. Anyone expecting large deliveries during this time frame is encouraged to let vendors know of the closure of Sorin Court ahead of time.

Pandemic impacts campus construction routines

There are some jobs that cannot be done remotely. For example, every day, five construction administrators, led by Tony Polotto, director of quality assurance, visit dozens of campus construction sites — major capital projects such as Johnson Family Hall, Corby Hall and McKenna Hall, as well as numerous renovation projects on campus including labs and offices in McCourtney Hall, Harper Hall and Cushing Hall, among others. The team must ensure that design plans are meticulously followed and that work is being done safely and with a high degree of quality.

McKenna Hall reconstruction to begin in early August

McKenna Hall, as we know it, shut down operations at the end of the workday on Monday, July 22, and will be vacated by Thursday, Aug. 1, so a two-year reconstruction project can commence.

Beautification projects to take place at Grotto and outside the Basilica

Improvements are coming this summer to the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Natural stone pavers will be installed in place of the pavement surrounding the Grotto while brick pavers will replace the asphalt outside the main entrance to the Basilica.

Sidewalk restrictions in April northeast of Hesburgh Library

During the month of April, work crews will remove and replace the sidewalks along the northeast side of Hesburgh Library. Pedestrian traffic will flow around a temporary construction fence. The truck loading dock will be closed from April 15 to 26 so the concrete can be replaced. During that period, the trash dumpster will be located outside the construction fence.

Spring Break: Holy Cross Drive to be partially closed

During Spring Break, there will be a partial road closure and detour that will affect campus traffic, including the campus shuttle. Holy Cross Drive, between St. Joseph Drive and Wilson Drive, will be closed to eastbound vehicular traffic from Saturday, March 9 to Sunday, March 17. The closure will allow crews to complete extensive underground utility work associated with the construction of a residence hall north of Dunne Hall.
