Routine cleaning and maintenance of the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto will take place Monday-Friday, June 11-15. Access to the covered portion of the Grotto will be restricted, however, there will be access and use of the candle racks outside of the kneeling rail.

Corby Hall demolition and reconstruction to affect southern access to Grotto

This summer, after more than 120 years of continuous use, Corby Hall will be razed to allow for an updated facility that better suits the needs of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Corby Hall is the on-campus residence and center of hospitality for the community of priests and brothers. A new Corby Hall, with a strong resemblance to the original, will be constructed in its place, which is west of the Basilica of Sacred Heart and south of the Grotto. Installation of underground utilities impacts Wilson Drive near Wellness Center March 7-21

East Plant

As part of the Utilities Long Range Plan (ULRP), the Utilities department will be installing various underground utilities infrastructure to the new East Plant. The work will be completed in phases to accommodate access to campus facilities. 

Phase one will be from March 7-21, 2018 and will include the following:

  • Closure of Wilson Drive from north of the Wellness Center entrance to the intersection of Holy Cross Drive. 
  • The Wellness Center parking lot and the Dunne Hall parking lot can be accessed from the south via Bulla Road. 
  • The East Gate will be accessed from the north via Stepan Drive. 
  • This phase of work will be completed in two weeks.   

The second phase will start on March 21, 2018. Details on road accessibility will be available soon.

Construction on the East Plant has commenced and will continue through fall 2018. The plant will be located southeast of the intersection of Douglas Road and Wilson Drive. The plant will house heat pumps that are connected to the geothermal well fields beneath Ricci Fields along with chillers and a Thermal Energy Storage Tank. Curb repairs, asphalt resurfacing on Moose Krause North

Sidewalks will remain open, but there will be limited access to parking and delivery access on the road, north of Notre Dame Stadium. Faculty and staff requiring critical deliveries during this time should contact Steve Banet at 260-740-1902 to coordinate access.

Grace Hall Exterior Improvements

Facilities Design and Operations has scheduled exterior maintenance to Grace Hall to start on Wednesday, April 12. This will include the following:

  • Masonry restoration
  • Removal of existing roofing system
  • Installation of new roof
  • Completion time of approximately 3 1/2 to four months.

To begin the masonry restoration, the crane will be set-up at the northeast corner of the building to hoist equipment/materials up to the roof. Contractor personnel will be onsite to direct pedestrians safely around this area. This should take approximately four hours.
