This summer, after more than 120 years of continuous use, Corby Hall will be razed to allow for an updated facility that better suits the needs of the Congregation of Holy Cross. The construction of the natural gas service pipeline to the Power Plant is progressing well and is approaching its final phase. NIPSCO (Northern Indiana Public Service Company) is installing a new natural gas pipeline to campus and a metering & regulating station located north of Mason Services Center. …
As part of the Utilities Long Range Plan (ULRP), the Utilities department will be installing various underground utilities infrastructure to the new East Plant. The work will be completed in phases to accommodate access to campus facilities.
Phase one will be from March 7-21, 2018 and will include the following:
- Closure of Wilson Drive from north of the Wellness Center entrance to the intersection of Holy Cross Drive.
- The Wellness Center parking lot and the Dunne Hall parking lot can be accessed from the south via Bulla Road.
- The East Gate will be accessed from the north via Stepan Drive.
- This phase of work will be completed in two weeks.
The second phase will start on March 21, 2018. Details on road accessibility will be available soon.
Power Plant Expansion
As part of the Utilities Long Range Plan (ULRP), the Utilities department will be installing Heat Recovery Steam Generators and Combustion Turbines in the new Power Plant Expansion facility now under construction.
These system components are of significant size and weight and will require the temporary closure of St. Joseph Drive from Moreau Drive to the Power Plant entrance as well as parts of Moreau Drive west of St. Joseph Drive during the moving of these items from White Field to the Power Plant compound.…

This week, construction will commence on a new, four-story men’s residence hall located west of Ryan Hall on the southwest portion of campus. Built to attain LEED silver certification, the 78,000 square-foot residence hall will be home to approximately 250 undergraduate men. Construction on the East Plant has commenced and will continue through fall 2018. The plant will be located southeast of the intersection of Douglas Road and Wilson Drive. The plant will house heat pumps that are connected to the geothermal well fields beneath Ricci Fields along with chillers and a Thermal Energy Storage Tank. The energy production from this plant is part of the University’s Comprehensive Sustainability Strategy.…

Crews will perform utility infrastructure upgrades and extensions. The gated parking lots at the Joyce Center along Leahy Drive as well as the Guglielmino Athletics Complex parking lot will remain open.
The area will be closed for approximately three weeks as workers make general improvements to the entryway’s exterior.
A portion of the walkway east of Notre Dame Avenue will be closed April 24 through May 5.
Facilities Design and Operations has scheduled exterior maintenance to Grace Hall to start on Wednesday, April 12. This will include the following:
- Masonry restoration
- Removal of existing roofing system
- Installation of new roof
- Completion time of approximately 3 1/2 to four months.
To begin the masonry restoration, the crane will be set-up at the northeast corner of the building to hoist equipment/materials up to the roof. Contractor personnel will be onsite to direct pedestrians safely around this area. This should take approximately four hours.
DeBartolo Hall’s north and east entrances and north loading dock will be closed as well as the walkways between DeBartolo and Duncan Student Center. Pedestrian traffic will be re-routed to the east side of DeBartolo Hall, facing Eck Hall of Law and McKenna Hall.
A portion of Holy Cross Drive will be closed on Tuesday, March 28, between the Holy Cross/Eddy Street intersection and the entrance to the Legends parking lot.
