Hesburgh Library Renovation Alerts: Fourth Floor Closed and Elevator Abatement Begins

Fourth Floor Closed for Renovation
As of 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, the fourth floor of the Hesburgh Library will be closed for renovation.

Elevator Lobby Abatement
Asbestos abatement of the first- and second-floor elevator lobbies will take place over the 2015-16 holiday break. See scheduled closures below or read full Ren-Alert.

If you are unable to use the stairs, please ask for assistance at the Security Monitor's desk in the Fishbowl or at the Circulation and Research Help Desk in the North Entrance Gallery.

Fall Break construction projects to close some roads, walkways

Preparations begin for Leahy Drive and Dorr Road closures

Preparations have begun for work that will close portions of Leahy Drive and Dorr Road from Monday, Oct. 19, to Sunday, Oct. 25.

Traffic along Leahy Drive will be restricted between Bulla Road (at the Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC)) and Moose Krause Circle/Courtney Lane (near the Guglielmino Athletics Complex). The B2 parking lots and the Hesburgh Library circle driveway will remain open during the work period. Hesburgh Library North Entrance Plaza and Quad Site Logistics Plan

Beginning Monday, July 27, construction work began north of the Hesburgh Library to allow for a new north entrance plaza connecting the new north entrance of the library to be open on Monday, Aug. 24. Work continues throughout August and will be complete on Thursday, Sept. 3. The east and west sidewalk and diagonal walks north of the library are closed to allow for construction. Gas line digging along Wilson Drive

NIPSCO will work on Wilson Drive starting at Douglas Road and run a new 4" gas line along the east side of Wilson Drive down to Bulla Road (near Stinson Rugby Field, D2 North and B2 Middle and South parking lots). This work will start Tuesday, July 14 and take about two weeks.

During this time there may be temporary lane restrictions throughout the project. The road will remain open.…

Utility Work / Pedestrian Traffic Restriction

Starting Monday, July 13, there will be utility repair work taking place at the southwest corner of the Hesburgh Library.  This work will repair the waterproofing of the utility tunnel and replace a section of damaged sidewalk. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Friday, July 17. During this time the pedestrian traffic will be restricted in the immediate work area. Site Utility Work at McCourtney Hall

Temporary Parking Lot Closure Area
In able to run water lines for the new McCourtney Hall, an additional portion of the Hesburgh Library Parking Lot will be closed from Wednesday, July 1 through Friday, July 24. Both gated entrances to the parking lot will remain open, however the fenced construction area will be extended during this time. The lot will be restored at the completion of this work and will again be available for staff parking needs after Friday,

East Tunnel Project, B-2 South Parking Lot

East Tunnel Project: Parts of the B-2 South Lot, near the Wellness Center, will be affected while the fenced-off construction zone is changed close to the two new residence halls.
 

Phase 1: (Monday, June 15 through Monday, June 29) ADA Parking will be temporarily moved to the north side of the parking lot, near Holy Cross Drive. A temporary walkway will be constructed for pedestrians to access campus sidewalks as well.

Hesburgh Library construction update

On May 11, the 10th floor will be closed to the public and will remain inaccessible until completion of renovation of that floor at the end of 2015.  Asbestos abatement will begin on May 18, and continue until mid-June.  As a result, up to two of the four elevators will be dedicated at times to renovation work occurring on the 10th floor and not available for public use.

St. Joseph Drive road closure

A portion of St. Joseph Drive, south of Cavanaugh Drive, will be closed beginning Tuesday, March 24, due to scheduled utility repairs. The road is expected to reopen Friday, March 27.

Vehicular traffic will still have access to LaFortune Student Center and other buildings along Cavanaugh Drive. However, cars and trucks will not be able to travel south past Stepan Chemistry Hall.

New residence halls construction zone to limit walkway access

Phase 1 construction work on two new undergraduate residence halls will limit pedestrian walkway usage on the east side of campus in the coming months.

Beginning Thursday, March 19, students, faculty and staff will no longer be able to enter or exit campus using the walkway that extends from Bulla Road, between the B2 Lot near the Wellness Center and the McCourtney Hall research building work site. (View attached map
